The Sun-day Standard: Thoughts on the Phoenix backcourt and other Random takeaways from some Sunday games

Rip City vs Motor City: One night removed from, dropping a franchise record 21 threes on Philly, The Portland Trailblazers played a Detroit team hungry to become the first Leastern Conterence team to defeat them. For a while it seemed probable. There would have been no shame in the loss either. Losing on the second nights of back to backs on the road are forgivable, even for good teams. But the Blazers are not a just a good team…

The celebration, or lack thereof really sums up everything about how Portland perceives itself… Matter of fact: we won because that’s what we’re supposed to do. A big part of being a championship team is carrying yourself like one…

Suns-Warriors:

The Dubs need to fix their slow starts. They’ve looked pretty mediocre without Iggy. Except Steph, who you can’t keep down for an entire game.

The Suns D and pace have been really impressive. They’ve won 5 straight & are sitting at 5th in the west. 5th! And they’re the one team to have beaten the mighty Trailblazers twice! (Almost 3 times to fair…)Hornacek & co obviously never got the memo that they were supposed to tank this season.

A lot of this success can be attributed to great coaching and chemistry, and a devastating backcourt attack. I’ve always been a fan of 2 point guard lineups (infact, I’ll go out on a limb here and say that THIS is the future of the game, and in 10 years, the traditional shooting guard will be an obsolete position) and this Bledsoe-Dragic combination really seems like the best one we’ve seen. Both can push the pace, finish, score, pass and generally wreak havoc… each in their own uniquely contrasting way.

Bledsoe seems like Lebron & Westbrooks scientifically engineered lovechild who’s returned from the future to play in present day…

& is it any coincidence that they got the chance to develop under Chris Paul & Steve Nash respectively?

Highlight of the night: Big Blue-collar Bogut, always there to do his job: Rebound, Play D, Block shots, and throw behind the back passes off the dribble from midcourt!
